Such an awesome day this was!! Even if certain people thought we were clinically insane for swimming in the sea in winter (really though, it’s Australian winter people!!)
Am homemade some lovely cookies for us all, brought hot chocolate WITH BAILEYS (YUM) and tea. We are so well looked after.
We started the day with a lovely little trip to the Goodwood Farmers market, and the pear men remembered us from the previous week after Joe’s birthday!! We must have made quite an impression, ha ha. Legends.
We then made some lunch and us girls went down to the beach. Was a wicked day, we made sandcastles (A MAHUSIVE ONE, possibly to rival mine and dads) went swimming in the sea, although that may have been what began my cold : (
I prefer to blame Alex, as he was ill first, and not the fact I went swimming in winter.
The hot chocolate was a big hit to warm up after, as was the slightly ominous looking port which I brought along. Frisby was also a winner at warming everyone up and keeping up eye-hand coordination after all the special hot chocolate.
There ended up being a fair few of us down there, despite the abuse on the facebook group calling us all mental.
Two of am’s friends even turned up with garden shovels to help with the sandcastle construction – we even had preliminary drawings!!
When it got dark we had sparklers and put them all around the sandcastle too!! It looked so pretty. (making sure we took them off the beach with us of course)
After changing into warm/dry clothes we headed to our fav Mexican restaurant in Glenelg – Motezumas. Where we had their amazing sangria!! And also lots and lots of food, nachos and refried beans became a sea!
Another wander down the jetty was a wicked end to the day. It couldn’t have been better and I think I’m with am in saying one of the best beach days in Australia.

JOE’S SENSATIONAL BIRTHDAY
We planned to buy him a cake as there was one down the road from us which was a spongebob cake but unfortunately it was far to expensive so we (I mean me and sarah) decided it would be better to all pitch in for some wicked presents and make a cake.
Sarah and I made the cake (semi) on the Friday before the film screenings, Saturday Joe and I went shopping for all the food for the weekend (I even had a list and crossed it off as I got things – oh dear), and then Alex and I went to Glenelg to buy the remainder of Joe’s present. Si and I got half of it in the week.
We got him an AMAZING hamper of all English sweets and crisps and pot noodles (he is a child yes) coz he was feeling a bit homesick. I’ve never seen someone so excited about skips and jelly tots!!
I also cleaned the ENTIRE house on Saturday (yes I am mum here)
We had a few people over for drinks and a bit of food then headed out on the town. Was a good night despite us all being a bit dispersed and Joe not remembering much of the evening!! He doesn’t even remember me and Gary singing him happy birthday at the top of our lungs at midnight in the middle of the pub. Ha ha.
Sunday was a difficult day, we all felt very ouch. I managed to make it to meet am at the farmers market with Sarah but it was a very hard decision to make. And there may have been some uncontrollable stops on the way.
But then am gave me magic drink (Gatorade) and a man at the farmers market gave me a pear to make me feel better and I was on top of the world after that. We also tried the most amazing scallops of my life!! I love the farmers market so much!!
Came back and made a giant fry-up for six of us. Us girls then completed the cake, it was Victoria sponge and then I put white icing on with melted chocolate to make it look like the Stigs helmet (although Joe didn’t know what it was!!)
Was a good day and I think Joe really enjoyed it. Loved his presents and cake which was the main thing.

LAST DAY OF UNI : (
Everyone was so happy that it was over but I was really upset. I love the courses and obviously might not see any of these people again so understandably I was pretty upset. I had a final hand in of all my assignments then my last video production lecture.
Fortunately I would see everyone again on the Friday as we did an official film screening at the university cinemas. We did an intro and some of the other girls made a programme. We invited all family and friends and showed the corporate videos while everyone was arriving, showed music videos to begin, then the trailers and on to the movies.
Had a really good turn out so was pleased with that.

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE LEAVERS DRINKS
International centre put on some drinks and food with a presentation to say fairwell to all the exchange students but also to say thanks for coming. Also making sure they gave us yet more leaflets and a delightful booklet to fill out making sure we documented our time. Bless. I seem to have misplaced mine.
Then it was the Socceroos vs. Denmark so we all went to watch that at the Casino (my first time there and I only spent $10. very proud!

SAD DAYS
So my original plan was to extend my flights and go on a month road trip with the girls up to Darwin and back. However my money situation is a LOT worse than I thought and with paying more rent than I had originally anticipated (I thought it was by month not week – der)
Anyways turns out I didn’t have enough money to extend my flights (as everyone in England is very happy about) because every other airline except quantas seems to let you make one change for free but they charge $200!! I hate them!!
So we have to make our trip a lot shorter and also make our budget a lot shorter but we’re trying to work something out.
Money is the bain of my life!!

NAIB’S BIRTHDAY
This was finally a chance for me to catch up with the friends I made in my first week. I was so much fun to see them again (I met them at the hospital) and we had pre-drinks and cake at their house then headed out into town. Casablabla – one of the greatest bars ever!! It’s a latin American style place and everyone does proper dancing there, theres not really a dance floor either so is just everywhere and such an amazing atmosphere.
I was also supposed to be $10 entry but as I went in with the birthday boy who also knew the bouncer I was free!! Yes – all about contacts baby!!

MEDIA SUMMIT
E-democracies and e-participation’s final Summit in our online characters and we, the media, had to present.
My character is India King (scared john - boy!? Ha ha) and I was the editor of Incognita’s only broadsheet, it was so fun to present to everyone and the rest of media right worked so hard. We had a video slideshow as if we’d done interviews with citizens of Incognita and then a print out of a newspaper cover from our fictional paper. So much fun – but also glad it was over. It was getting a bit too full on but such a good learning experience!!
Yes I know I’m a geek but I don’t care, it was such a good way to experience democracies etc, even if it gave me a slight stress hernia.

BAROSSA TAKE THREE!!!
Now this one was a longer visit and a delightful one!! Although making me a bit homesick.
On the Saturday felt slightly seedy after the media pub crawl but I think it could have been the pancakes. Ha ha.
Went for some wine tasting (back on it) at JACOBS CREEK!! I was very excited also coz I know mum and dad like it. I go a picture of the sign and some of them were so yummy, although the lads from the Barossa tell me they are the worst wines because they’re too commercial and they don’t care about the taste so what do I know?! Lol.
Then went to visit the lovely Huon at his winery for more tastings then onto the CHEESE FACTORY! I was in heaven, you get to try everything and then we spent $30 on a cheese board!! I thought I may turn into cheese but it was so worth the tummy ache!!
Watched the sunset over the Barossa from trial hill which was beautiful. Got some good pictures so will try and upload them soon.
Back to Alex’s parents for yet more food (this is a big theme of the weekend!!) and a big family dinner – yum! – it was so good. Who ever thought of putting prawns in a pasta bake is a god!!
Then I had a VERY boy evening, there are somethings girls should not be a part of. And that’s not at all dissing women’s rights; there are just some things you don’t need to know about the male specie!!
Sunday was lovely, it was Alex’s parents 60th birthday so a massive family day. Glad more mates came!! Thanks hoon!! Made me a bit homesick due to all the speeches, etc. But such good food!!! It says something when ur mum is a home economics teacher, the food was amazing!!! I ate far too much though, and possibly a fair amount of red wine. Totally worth the overeating pains later!! Ha ha

MEDIA PUB CRAWL
What can I say? Another classic night!!
GET OFF YOUR FACEbook. Oh ha ha, how witty. And apparently bigger than Kates Party – standard!!
Stared off delightfully at Sez’s mansion, then nearly wet ourselves on the bus as we tried to make it to PJ’s the first bar on time. We missed it.
On to the Elephant ( I swear there’s only one route on all pub crawls here!!
Mansions was a new experience, slightly derro but with $2 shots and random other drinks you can’t really complain. I think there was another bar in there but I’m writing this a few weeks later so can’t remember (nothing to do with the amount of alcohol of course)
Ended at Electric Light once again where they had a fairly wicked band and then good times outside in their great beer garden although it was packed!!! $2 champagne though!! (I doubt that it was champagne in any form but by that time who can tell the difference and at $2 who cares!?
Night was quite ritually ended in the 24 pancake house, how we love it there!! But this time was just me, sarah and joe and no randomers called wHILLY!! Ha ha.

RESULTS
Yes I’m still working hard and getting the grades. We received a Distinction on our music video project which we were very happy with. We go 32 out of 40, basically the 8 marks were lost on the ending.
He said that is finished too abruptly and should have faded out although I really think that’s just a matter of personal taste to be honest.
Anyway go us!!

LUNCH AT AM’S
What can I say, I know this blog revolves around eating and drinking but really what more is there in life?!
AM IS AMAZING AT COOKING!! Why does it not happen more?!
She made us Mexican and us girls planned our road trip – yay!

UNI SKIVE
I know it is probably bad to put it on here but I only missed Video Production and we didn’t do anything anyway, I was told. I’d already handed in my first assignment and the other project I had nothing to do now.
Also I’ve finished studies so there’s not much they can do.
It was sunny so I went to the beach and had the most amazing malteaser cheesecake of my entire life!!!
Although penance for missing uni, I did get sunburnt.

FIRST CINEMA SINCE ARRIVAL!!
Went to see Robin Hood with all Simon’s friends, plus Jen. Simon didn’t come – GAY!
Was actually really good and the cinema was AMAZING!! It was a curvy screen so it was almost like it wrapped all around you!
Love It.
We even made the tram home, yay.

THINGS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Well, it is a slightly large claim but this is yet another which I will add to, also apologies if some of this is slightly sappy...
1) The Book = "The five people you meet in heaven"
2) The Quote = "I've learnt that people will forget what you did, people will forget what you said,
but people will never forget how you made them feel" Maya Angelou
4) The Movie = "Into the Wild"
5) Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream
6) Being able to run 7km without stopping once and not needing to die at the end.
7) Australia
8) A mother finally enjoying a job and lifestyle!!
9) Seeing an elephant and a lion in the wild
10) Realising you can live without a mobile phone and internet - bliss.
11) A Dad saying "Love you too" in a phone call : )
12) Hearing you made someone's day more special

MOTHERS!! (TOLD YOU SO)
As, some of you are aware, I try to keep this blog as family friendly as possible and I apologise if some causes offence but if it does your more than welcome to comment/not read it!
I even put in lovely things about the nice cultural things I have been up to, the good marks (im such an angel - ha ha) and lots about the course content just so you know I am paying attention.
But my darling mother decides to ignore these delightful tales of times in sunny Australia and just read the one specifically stating PARENTAL ADVISORY - DO NOT GO THERE and proceed to think I'm slightly off the rails.
Although, to be fair she did congratulate me. Thanks mum! : ) tee hee

FUNNY STUFF (updated)
I've heard a few extremely funny comments from people while I've been out and about in Adelaide, and although I won't remember them all, and I'm sure there will be more. Im sure this will be added to.
GLENELG; (father and toddler daughter on beach)
Kid running towards sea
Dad, "at least take your dress off if your going in the water"
Kid runs back strips everything she's wearing off and runs screaming into the sea
Dad; "I said your dress, I DIDN'T SAY NUDIE RUDIES!!!"
.Gold.
RUNDLE MALL;
While to Simon about when uni finishes. I said something like around 'June - ish'
Man on Street; "Did you just call me ginge?"
.Classic.
GLENELG;
Kid and dad walking off the beach to the road where we're parked.
Just as music changes tracks, so very quiet, kid yells;
"I NEED A POO!!"
.Hilarious.
HOME
Me talking about the dollar shop cheap as chips,
"Cheap as chaps ya?"
I will never live that down, officially a rah. What happened.
ALEX"S
Explaining to Alex who Jen and Pete were going to see in concert.
"I think they're going to see a duo, Alfie and someone. Yer that's it, Alfie and Jane."
The bands name is Teagan and Sarah (and they're both girls)
.Whoops.
HOME
I was out but got a phone call from Simon. After telling him to eat up some of the leftovers such as chicken and mashed potato.
Si - "Ria, you'll never guess, I had to tell someone."
Me - "Oh god, what have you done?..."
Si - "Well i got a plate out, put some chicken on and some mash, got a big fork full of chicken and dipped it in the msh then spat it out!!"
Me - "What you do that for?!"
Si - "It tasted weird....It wasn't mash....It was whipped cream!"
HA HA HA HA HA!!
Not quite how the conversation went but you get the jist. Whats even funnier, if it can be. is the fact i had made mustard mash so they dont even look similar!!

THE NORTH INVADE THE SOUTH
Simon's friends from England came to stay in a 6 birth campervan!!! They had to drive it to Adelaide for someone so it was their accommodation and transport for a few days. Both are Northerners, so we had a housefull. They are soooo nice though, we all went out for dinner and few drinks on thursday night which was great fun. there ended up being about 14 of us heading out into the city. Great start to the weekend.
JOE"S SISTER VISITS
I've just realised I forgot to write about Joe's AMAZING stirfry, which is the only thing he's ever cooked us (I'm not counting those burgers Joseph!) It was so nice and his sister helped, we watched TV and had some beers. was delightful.
Thanks Dools!
Thanks Dools!
UNI UNTIL 3.30am, FIRST FOR ME
Well, as I'm aware this is not unusual for some of you, for me however it is extremely unheard of!!!
Chrissy, JB and myself were up until midnight on tuesday editing our music video (and we'd already edited some in the previous weeks) so much tweaking and lip synching!
It also didnt help that the macs kept messing up and changing the timing of our edits therefore messing the lip synching and cross fades.
So the following night we were editing until 3.30am, one girl was there all night and was at uni the next day without having had any sleep.
And they say students are lazy!!
Well after a LOT of dramas with our piece we managed to get it done, handed in on time, and even shown to the rest of the class with everyone elses.
Good work guys!! We will post it on youtube next week i reckon so will post the link.

DINNER AT OURS< HOW DELIGHTFUL
I decided to cook my world famous carbonara which Joe loves for everyone on Monday night. Having been given plenty of notice, Am, Joe and Jen were all there. Simon however, was not.
Needless to say, not impressed. So much notice and he still couldnt be back in time, (Donna i don't know how you put up with him! lol) but anyway we had a lovely meal, watched some good movies and Joe even bought Golden Gaytimes for dessert! Legend.

ADELAIDE CROWS vs RICHMOND TIGERS
WHOOP WHOOP the crows won their first game of the season and we were there to witness it! YAY.
Pretty subdued start to the day (for obvious reasons - kings is not a game to be taken lightely) and off to the game on the free bus.
first 3 quarters were terrible but it was fun yelling at the team to do better and hearing all the richmond fans around us too (they are all mixed up over here - not sides - joe was not happy, could see the football hooligan rage building)
Then the last quarter we absolutely demolished them!! the atmosphere was wicked and im definitely going to another one, now that i get the rules even more its even better.
Please take us again sarah!!
After a weekend of excess (especially on the spending front) we thought we'd carry on and went out for a wicked meal at a place I've been wanting to go to the whole time we've been here!
Lemongrass is an asian/thai infusion place and it was amazing!! I even had a cupcake waiting for me at home and a warmer duvet - as suprisingly its gettin colder her - thanks dimps : )
Wicked end to a wicked weekend. Love you all

YUMMY DINNER
We went to a mexican restarant in Glenelg pretty early on (Am, Joe and myself) called Montizumas and all i can say is congratulations on your mindblowing food at cheap prices!! YUM.
Joe, Am, Alex, Nik and myself went for a lovely meal at Glenelg (after Am and I had checked out the boats and mariner - so nice - and also spent over an hour in the book shop looking at awsome things!!)
The most amazing Sangria I've ever tasted, it was like hot cross bun in a glass. (trust me that is actually nice) and gorgeous filling food.
We then decided we couldnt afford to go out so gatecrashed Alex's house to play kings, dance, be silly, and for joe - play nintendo.
I also borrowed a book i wanted to buy at the shop so win win win.
Over half way and the weekend is looking pretty damn fine.

JOB SHMOB LOB
I HATE IT!! Finally had my first shift, all going well and they were lovely. Was learning about proper coffee making as the guy had been a barista for 7 years and got a bit of cash in my hand.
Left it that I would come back next week.
Stopped my essay writing, got ready and went over the road to hear-
her - "oh, i didnt call you in for today"
me - "i know, i thought we left it last week that youd see me today"
her - "yer sorry we dont need you in today, did i not call"
me - "no"
her - (laughing) "oh well, god job you only live across the road."
me - grrr
her - "oh and iv just been on the phone to my boss, im not going back to work so we dont actually need you at all."
me - "are you jokin?"
her - "no sorry, i just cant leave this place. but iv got your number incase it gets busy....although now its winter everyone says it wont."
AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

NEWCASTLE
Had to pick my modules for next year (third year) and couldnt do one i really wanted to because I didnt have a job. I tried for two weeks to get one but no replies, knowone wants me : (
but the others that i settled for seem ok and you can always change them over inthe first few weeks anyway.
Also having to start thinking about my dissertation. grrrrr. but think i finally have an idea.

INCOGNITA
The online module has started to come together. One of my modules - Democracy and E-participation has a second half which is entirely online. Its the one I have mentioned before where a whole world has been created where we all have our own characters and there's online newspapers and a government blog and leaks within the society, etc etc. Its pretty exciting - if it was organised properly!!!
There were sooooooo many problems in the first few weeks and people were changed from one political party to another by the lecturer and her two technical aids. knowone seemed to know what was going on and our paper was all over the place not knowing our political stance on the matter and then technical problems of everyone being able to see posts which were supposed to be private, etc.
Anyway we have managed to pull it back, we think. and im quite enjoying the shamble mess of it, eventually. I thought i was going to start getting a hernia from stress but now i know its just about participation and not who's right and wrong its just funny.
Each character also has a personal secret which only the lecturer knows which keep being release on the online blogasphere about the politicians, etc. pretty cool. and I got an email from an anonymous source (as the editor of one broadsheet paper) which gave us a wicked story.
Ha, i dont care im a geek.

MELBOURNE ROAD TRIP
Awsome random weekend which was decided half way through the week as I was offered a FREE lift. I love those kinds.
I felt the need to get out of adelaide also, just for a little bit, and with current finances it was difficult to see when I'd next get a chance to head up and see my good friends Kerrie and Blair.
Alex was going to have a meeting with a guy from a Uni, Pete was perhaps going to ask questions but mainly along for the ride and I was going for a surf. Sweet.
Left Adelaide at 6am!! We were all suprisingly awake and Pete's comment of how nice the day was, was heard slightly wrong and will be laughed at and quoted for quite some time!
Did a couple of stops on the way, most prominently at the GIANT KOALA, wicked!! (not a real koala, as emma and rach asked, but a big replica of one. lol)
I even got to do some driving, very exciting and am now trusted once more, after the lads saw the pic of my unfortunate last car im not suprised they were a bit apprehensive.
Got to Melbs at about 4pm - looooooooong day, and guess where we went straight away? The ub of course. Pete and I had a brew while Alex met the guy and we made friends will Emily, who is also from the UK and working in melbourne while travelling.
Got the train down to meet Blair and headed to her mates house (thanks for letting me stay Mac, Alfa and Crack - it's their footy nicknames) where we had an immense BBQ, turning into a few hours at the European Bar in the city (which stinks does not remember!) and then back to theirs where i proceeded to have a nap on couch and then move to bed at 4am!
Up again at 9am, for the ladies to play footy. HA HA GUTTED> Mac was in a terrible state an their was an amusing but disgusting incident with a shoebox. ask if you dare.
had seriously good breakfast burger with Alfa while the rest got ready and then watched the match - trying the grasp the concepts of aussie rules before the crows game.
Blair was stuffed after so I got a train to the city to meet the lads and another mate they'd met up with, Ishita.
Another weirdo encounter while waiting for the train althought this time the guy actually wasnt all there and another man helped me! nice melbourne people.
The 'weirdo' kept saying that one to me and then proceeded to pretend to be some sort of animal, bearnig his teeth at me and getting right up in my face. was quite weird but quite funny after when the man next to me was like "what the hell are you doing, leave her alone" THANKS MR!
Four of us went up to St Kilda to meet Kerrie and had a really nice dinner. 15 dollar steaks - YUM! and amazing wine that pete bought.
I then went to meet Tam for a drink (who i travalled with last time) but just missed her as we were spending too much time on our dinner. poo. come to adelaide please miss!!!
Monday was spent driving back to radelaide and the one stop we had I was not best pleased with as we went to the worst bakery in Australia. Although they did have award winnning custard slices. which was nice.

SCARIEST MOMENT IN AUSTRALIA
Perhaps I should advise Mum not to read this as she'll probably freak but dont worry it was ages ago now!
So coming home on the tram as you do, only about 7pm this young fella (slightly dodgeg looking) strikes up a convo. I humour him for a bit, being polite as us English tend to do until he started asking slilghtly odd questions and telling me strange stories about stealing the olympic torch and that all his friends had left him so could we be friends.
At this point I thought it best to stop talking to him so said I was busy on my way home and the old faithful of "I have a boyfriend, married, gay, etc, etc" and attempted to move away from him in the extremely crowded tram.
He kept talking.
I'd like to mention here that I had my back to him, with an i-pod in and had moved away and knowone on the tram said anything. Not even a polite leave her alone mate.
Well anyway I had said I was going all the way to Glenelg as he was persistant in asking where I lived (obviously I lied) so waited for the last minute to press the buzzer at Goodwood road and waited for the door to open.
It was at that point I felt a pull on my bag and a voice asking for my number. I pulled away, said no and got off.
After telling me he also lived in Glenelg the guy proceeded to get off the tram after me at Goodwood.
It was at that point I decided I was not walking to my house as he was blatantly following me, so i instantly started walking towards the Goody (lots of people and bouncers - safe) he then started picking up his pace and almost chasing me down the road. getting more and more irate I was ignoring him and not giving him my number. I told I had said no already.
I got my phone and started ringing Joe at this point.
he then proceeded to call me all the names under the sun until i ran across the road yelling leave me alone/ how pathetic.
he waited outside for a bit but then i take it gave up and i waited in the pub until Joe and Jen came to save me (thanks for that guys)
Needless to say i was pretty shaken up and was slightly wary taking the tram after that. i still hate it at night but now i always have a massive bag so ill just smash him over the head with it next time!!

INTERNATIONAL FAIR
I said I would volunteer for the International fair to promote the wonderful Newcastle University. Unfortunately there were no promotional materials or flyers, therefore I pretty much had nothing to stand on except for go there because I think it's cool!
Oh well, i tried.
I also met some pretty cool people also from the UK, and apparently there's about 20 of us over here!! Most are here for the year though not one semester.

TRIVIA AGAIN
An attempt at becoming regulars we tried the quiz again - this time with a few more people but prehaps slightly less braincells as Sarah asked the question of questions - (sorry to do this to you but it wasdamn funny)
"Does the moon have moons?"
Oh how we laughed!!! Bless.
Although being invited to a lovely meal, I did bail. Sorry Ben and family. But i ended up getting the best of both as had a wicked night with mates and then got leftovers of the greatest soup ever tasted (in Australia, dont wanna annoy the parentals : ))

ME? INVITED TO A PARTY?
Had an official invite to the first birthday gathering in Australia (reminds me of redgate leaf) and it was from the right honourable Chrissy Kavanagh - legend.
It was the best food EVER at a birthday party and i long for the recipe to her mums homemade houmous. This was also the start of the nickname chickpea (damnit) as i happened to demolish half a plate of the stuff, BY ACCIDENT.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISSY

BAROSSA TAKE TWO
Another fairly short trip to wine country, but an equally lovely one.
Went on the back of a dirt bike, fell over in a spar (thats a hot tub to all the brits!!) and came back with a questionable bruise which has stuck around for a fair few weeks!
But all in all a pretty cool time, even got some good 'ol family tucker (i helped with an amazing soup starter i might add...becoming something of a culinary genius!)
Also I'd like to add the main reason I went was still to see Zach the dog who is of course pineing for me now I've left. Love you Zach!!! (trace you would have stolen him)

SUPERMILD
Finally made it to the club everyone's been raving about. (well by everyone i mean Huon, Alex, Pete, Nik and i think Lee... but anyway!!)
It's pretty cool, funk and soul music - nice and grimy (in a good way) and a generally wicked night out.
This was after a successful second BBQ at the Goodwood residence. With the aussie fellas on top form taking control of the grill, not that your job wasn't great last time Jen but at least we had some oil left!! ha ha.
There was also a good ol shindig at Marie and stina's place - where I never realised how many people you could fit into those tiny UV appartments, good work!!

I feel this deserves a mention,

UNIVERSITAAAAAYYY
I have to say a quick thing about simon as he's been pretty absent from this blog and its because he has NO LIFE. The uni work is ridiculous and hes working pretty much 20+ hours a day which i think is stupid and the uni is putting far too much pressure on. He also has no money so is being a homeless person and gettin left over chickens from his mates work. Good on him for living though! Ha ha, i think he had better left over food than the stuff i actually pay for, although it is mainly chocolate and chicken.
Anyway....
Uni has restarted and theres yet more reading to be done for my research essay, im getting there. Plus the e-participation section of Media Democracies and E-participation has started. its pretty full on and why oh why did i decide my fictional role would be editor, iv given myself even more work as i have to check everyone elses before its published! Damnit!
its pretty exciting though, and makes having internet at home even better! It also could work in my favour as I can use the experiences in my Media Policy and Media Law research about internet restrictions, and the fact one of my modules is all virtual now.

JOB JOB JOB
I finally got a phone call!!!!
It's from the cafe across the road from our house on Goodwood and I had an interview this morning. I had to make a coffee (remembering my skills on the Princess theatre machine - oh yer) and should hopefully be getting 2 shifts a week.
I have a trial this saturday so fingers crossed it all goes well, its not much money compared to other australian wages, but compared to England I'm getting more than my job in newcastle per hour so thats prety good!
Its a family run business so hopefully it wont be too hard to infiltrate and for them to learn to love me : )
Will keep you all posted..

3 DAYS SHOOOTING - DONE
As i explained before i mean film shooting not gun shoooting (no alex, once again, not rifle shooting!) so anyway this weekend just gone I had 2 days of filming with the "Getting Even" crew for my short film then on the monday a lovely day in Belair National Park for the music video with "We Grow Up".
Saturdays filming schedule was slightly mad as we changed the whole arrangement of scenes to film after realising that the actress would have to change costume and have her hair redone like a gazillion times, and it worked out better to do all the scenes in one costume and then change to another. Yes granted we should have checked the schedule before but it's one of those things you dont really notice until the time, but hopefully not too many noses were put out of joint. and a big thanks to our actors who were very understanding and worked soo well!! you made the film!!
The day went pretty well dispite all the changes and we even managed to finish about 3 hours early, which was great for the guys who were heading out in the vity (it was saturday night after all) We were also sponsored by Subway that day so had two massive platters! There were leftovers which the boys at home were very pleased about when i came back with lots of leftovers.
Second day filming was a lot more blaze, we managed to go over schedule by about 2 hours but i dont think anyone was really that bothered and we got all the filming done we needed. A few crew members made cameo appearances which was all good and we even had enough money in the budget left over for pizza lunch. (although our budget could have probably been used more wisely as we had a million snacks left over - once again the boys were happy and our filming the next day benefitted)
The lovely Chrissy and I also went for a drink after to have a debrief session and to plan for our next filming day. the music video.
We already had completed the filming of the doll and now had to concentrate on the band. There were slight dramas as the band thought we were starting half an hour after we planned and then got lost! But then the cd player packed up so we couldnt even film them with the backing track, until chrissy managed to get to a music shop and get a new one (not planned in our budget - whoops!)
So anyway other than a few minor hiccups the day went well, we finished pretty early considering and I even got to make a cameo which will be at the start (hopefully).
After 3 days i was pretty tired and was now known as the time and continuity nazi! Sorry everyone but i wanted it to be perfect!! ha ha, and you dont have to work with me again!
And i even managed to go for a 7km run (which was actually the only time my headache stopped) and got my loan through, yay! (sorry for being grumpy on the phone mother)

INTERNET!!!
If you havnt realise already by the facebook presense and blog updates we have finally got internet in our house!! the setting up of it did mean we had to pay 7 weeks backdated rent, plus 2 weeks bond, which carved quite a lot out of the savings! but had to be done i guess.
also brilliant to actually see our landlord for once, talk to him about any problems and also to finally get internet! also means i can now skype all u kids that have it and u can actually see what i look like as i have a webcam now!!
I even managed to make it to volleyball after the bus ride and plane back from stanthorpe too, so a very eventful day.

FILMING
Speaking of third year courses, this weekend was our filming dates for our short film - "getting even" and to be honest i thought it would be a lot more stressful than it was.
We had a few minor tiffs but nothing of major importance (to be honest i think any major issues were probably bottled up and a few little comments made but not much coming of them, so well see what happens with the journals)
We got sponsored by subway, which was awsome and had so much food it was ridiculous. we even had a coles voucher so had tons of crisps, crackers and dips too!! oh and also got sponsored by nippi's which is a juice company so got loads of orange and water which was really tasty.
First day we were under schedule by 3 hours which everyone was pretty happy about as some needed to get out (it was a saturday night after all) but unfortunately the second days filming we overfilmed for soooooooo long! it seemed to go well and the lovely chrissy and i went to the pub afterwards for a debrief. as we both realised we couldnt go home without it, even if everyone else could. we also have our filming day tomorrow at the belair national park so had to do a few preps for that.

UNI WORK - YES I AM DOING IT
While away I had an online test and a reading reflections essay. the reading reflections essay was a bit of a shock as i thought the questions would be released the same day as the timed assessment but apparently they had been on myuni (australias version of blackboard) for a week in a different section that i hadn't even seen! so i had to rush that slightly, although i had lots of prep time on the coach and plane so i think i actually wrote it quite well and even had too much to write!! so we'll see about that and the e-test i scored 17 out of 20 in one try, so although it was a multiple try test i thought that was pretty good and didnt do it again. I may have got less the second time and its the last score before the closing time that they take down.
Also if you dont think thats too great i'd like to remind everyone that the course i had these assesments for is actually a third year course so i think im keeping up with it pretty well!!

SUNNY STANTHORPE
Got the bus from brisbane and fell asleep for a bit which made the journey slightly quicker. Was slightly nervous for my arrival party but also very excited and the closer i got the more excited i was. massive grin on my face, same feeling as when im heading home. As i said before, Stanthorpe is my home in Australia, it's boring and the people can be crap (obviously not mark, wendy, christina and co but the locals!!) but its so familiar and random i still just love it.
Had a MASSIVE catch up sitting on my favourite balcony with mark and wendy and some beers.
The whole time here was amazing even if we didnt do much (mark being a far too relaxed host!!) Christina and her new fella came over for dinner on monday night which was really nice and we ate lots of lasagne and pudding. She looked so excited and happy to see me, it was so nice.
Next day i got mark working (im sure they wont want me to go back next time) and we washed the car which we had travelled in last time. It was so scary though as i was cleaning under the spoiler and GIANT huntsman spider came crawling out and hit my hand. i just screamed and ran away!!
mark though i was just scared of the water he sprayed me with. ha ha!
We also got all the wood which they had been clearing and made a GIANT bonfire (i even got to go on the ride on lawn mower again-the excitment) we had that that evening with beers and snacks and then another amazing meal of bangers and mash!! Seriously they fed me so well.
This was also the day that me and mark went through the boxes from melvin (our travel van) and i found all my old clothes and my travel bag. PLUS letters which i received from you guys last time i was here. plus photos. was really good seeing all the memories if a bit hard..
We also saw loads of movies and even watched paranormal activity, why ill never know! but they also introduced me to Idoicracy, which is another movie i recommend to everyone.
While there i also had to do some uni work... boring. i had such a nice time though and want to thank them so much. It was definitely needed, and i love zena the dog and hope you had to keep her!!
Also christina please quit your job, i dont want to see you look like that again!
And mark and wendy, go to new zealand, you know you want to!! you cant stay in australia for a house, no matter how insanely cool elphick is.

SHOOTING ALL DAY
I've just realise i said i was shooting all day and then forgot to explain it. Its not in a psycho way at all, its in a media way! We had a day on tuesday 6th where we filmed all day in belair national park. It was a really good day, as i was feeling pretty stressed we werent taking enough footage, or that it wasn't good enough but when we reviewed it it was so good. we realised we could use some of it in fast forward in the actual clip and it would look really cool so now only the band to shoot now. We even had enough time for a working pub lunch - oh yer!
This is for the first project on video production which is our music video and we're filming the band later on as we had problems with permits. whoops.

RUMPLER JUNIOR TURNS 18
It was Daves little brothers birthday while we were there. which was pretty cool as they had a big family bbq and get together with all his friends too. Although, it did scare me a bit as i seriously hope i wasn't like some of those girls when i was 18! they were ridiculous!
This was a day when we went for sushi for lunch too, which id never had before at a proper sushi restaurant. was really nice and pretty cheap for such a filling meal.
The food was lovely at the BBQ and there was so much of it. I think me and nat ate our body weight in crisps though!! as we didnt really know anyone.. funny.
there was also a plan to head into the town but i bailed and ended up staying in with daves mum and friends plus the under agers. it was actually pretty funny and i got to hear some funny stories about their crazy lives (the ones the kids arent usually allowed to know about!)
anyway it was a good night and a cool day the following day as we lazed by the pool all day and just ate loads! ha ha. brilliant.
I then got the bus that evening to the wonder of Stanthorpe, my australian home.

TWO WORLDS IN ONE
We had such a wicked time at Dream World and White Water world! It was so good, even if me and nat originally wanted to go to Warner Brothers movie world (dave if only you weren't such a lightweight!!) but we went on some SCARY rides!!
There was a ride where you freefall 39 stories!, which we all went on and it was terrifying!! I actually thought, this is what it must be like to die! haha. then nat and i went on one where u jet off so fast (im sure its faster than rita) and you get shot half way up the free fall tower. awsome!
There was a pretty cool motocoaster too which was rollar coast but ur sat on a motor bike for it.
White water world was amazing and I've never been to a water park before so that was really cool! One of the rides was hilarious! You go in a massive ruber ring which holds four people and then go down this awsome flume which has a vertical drop which we werent told about!! we laughed so much!!
Me and Dave also went on one which was called the wedgie. HA HA HA, it was so terrifying! we thought it was just a really fast slide but it turned out to be a vertical drop, but not just any kind!
We queued for AGES to get the top to see a shower type cubicle....you get inside STANDING and cross your ankles with your hands behind your head, the woman then closes the door and counts down 3, 2 1...then THE FLOOR DROPS OUT FROM UNDER YOU!!!! sooooo scary but awsome!!!!
We spent the whole day at the two parks and then headed back to Daves parents house for a chilled out night of pizzas and tv. so good.

NAT AND DAVE ON THE GOLD COAST!
Because i booked pretty cheap flights one was at a bit of a ridiculous time, meaning i had to leave mine at 4.30am! Fortunately the most lovely and gorgeous Sarah (on my course) offered to give me a lift and i love her for it!! Although she is actually being a big suck up to me as she's coming to England this year to do an exchange at Leeds; whoop whoop! So thanks again lovely for the lift!
Got to Brissie pretty early which turned out great as we had the whole day to chill out at Daves mate house. Was so good to see so many familiar faces in two weeks! made it a bit more bearable, not that i dont love it hear but this is the first time I've really felt homesick while being off on my travels so it was a good pick me up. We spent a good day on the beach after wetting ourselves laughing at our hire car. I've never seen a hyandi getz look so hilarious as with Dave sat in the front! man that will make me laugh for a while!
We even got to play monopoly after a wicked beach club lunch and some shopping ( yes i know i have no money but it was ridiculously cheap and i needed the boardies for white water world!) Went for a day trip to Byron Bay which was pretty nice as it kind of felt like going home in a strange way, as it all felt so familiar. Was really cool to sit on the beach and then we had a goregous lunch and a wander round the shop. Dave realise he had no money whatsoever so we decided to cook a meal at home (well sean and adrians) and also make lunch for the next day. it was even funnier when adrian revealed he had the movie "dirty dancing" and loved it so we ended up watching that!

THE BAROSSA EASTER WONDER and VISIT CONTINUED
So... the lovely Mihai Melonari has a friend called Bernard who knows a man who owns a Vineyard and wineries. (i know sounds like i know a man who knows a guy but it is actually all legit) and we were invited to the winery for the weekend for some beautiful tours, wines and a 3 course gorgeous meal which we all would help to prepare. Will was a bit apprehensive as he doesnt actually like wine! but after a few good ones he actually quite likes is now. dont tell the army lads, ha ha.
It was fairly pricey but turned out to be worth it coz it was gorgeous. There were 7 of us all together which was a good size and the meal consisted of antipasti, slow cooked lamb with potatoes and vegies, then apple strudle (handmade!) with ice cream. It was gorgeous and we all helped, although to be fair i think the guys did most the work and the rest of us helped with the clearing. It was like a film set (pictures to be added)
Easter sunday saw another huge meal of breakfast leftovers plus bacon, eggs, hot cross buns, muchrooms and french toast!! Then we headed back to the city for our first house gathering of an easter sunday bbq. good times.
This was the most pictures i took since being here (but also since Mihai lent me his memory card so i could actually take pictures!) we ended up playing snakes and ladders and then card games and it was actually so much fun! we had a bbq and lots of drinks! will had a great time too which made me happy coz i was worried it wasnt enojying himself enough!!
On monday we went to the adelaide zoo! only place in Australia to have pandas! but apparently they were unavailable! thats ridiculous, how on earth are they unavailable. We then went to yet another new beach! Henley beach which was wicked except when there were big freakouts of shark attacks, which ended up being dolphins which was awsome!
That night we also had a big family style meal of fajitas and gorgeous ice cream! then there was even a good night out after even though we were all knackered! Went to the Grace Emily which is awsome! They always have live bands and they're so good and so varied, the crowd there is wicked too, a real good mix.
Wills last night wasn't his last night in australia but as i was heading to brissie the next day it was our last night together so after i had been out all day shooting (how professional does that sound? - or does it sound a bit psycho?!) so anyway for wills last night; me, will and joe went to the goody (our lovely local) for a couple of drinks and then to the most amazing thai place i think iv ever eaten in. and it wasn't too pricey either. Perfect end to a really good week.

THE VISIT
I was more than excited to meet Will from the airport, even if i was late, sorry! The bus was ridiculously slow and I had a lecture before which I could have ditched but check me out, not one missed yet!! So it was legitimate lateness.
We got back to the house and headed to the wonder that is Big W (like a big department store which is actually pretty cheap and a nice distance from the house, no Will it is not miles!) to get essentials such as cotton wool, chocolate and shower gel, what more do you need?? ha ha.
Decided to have a realtively quiet one and headed to our local - The Goody, for a few bevvies and some food. Will went a little mad and decided to buy us all JagerBombs, not as quiet as we once thought and we were all very nice to Simon, who has become a resident derro sponger (you know we love you really) and bought him some beers ($8 dollar beers i might add!!) and it turned into a classic accidental messy night. perfect welcome to Australia.
Next day was a perfect beach exploring day at Glenelg, although it got a bit chilly so we HAD to take refuge in a wicked cocktail bar on the mariner (dad you would have loved it!! so many yachts and posh boats) We also looked in lots of sweet shops to find sweeties for Wills mates and there's a sweet shop in Glenelg that has walkers crisps and drinks you can only get in the UK, which is good to know if i get any crazy cravings.
Had quite a quiet night of movies and chill because I had a full day of uni on thursday. (well i say full, it's 11am - 5pm then volleyball but still!!
So i was a bad friend for the day and will had to fend for himself. Had lots to plan with my video production groups but was all good after a few dramas with certain permits we didn't know we had to have! That day was also Nan and Grandads wedding anniversary so I did my wonderful grandaughter moment and called them. : )
Volleyball was good as always even though we lost William! Apparently he was off playing footy with some ozzie guys (and he tells me he doesn't like meeting new people!) we headed to the Rob Roy hotel (official sponsor of the AU volleyball team) for 10 dollar schnizel and cheap beers. Then we ended up heading out! I love random nights which aren't planned, even better that will was there and Am came to volleyball too!! : )
There was a free juke box and we even tried to head to a 'club' in norwood but i was fairly denied entry for wearing thongs (thats flip flops to you lot) and then RUDELY slagged off for my attire in which the woman looked me up and down with disgust and said "and people usually dress up a bit for this place". DOOR BITCH!! excuse my french.
Friday brought a new beach! Very exciting for us as it even turned out to be heaps better than Glenelg. And guess what is was called?? Brighton Beach!! It was beautiful and so quiet. Jen got so burnt though, and she's the australian! aren't they supposed to know about the dangers of sun in this climate, and next time Jen please put on more than moisturiser! We want to look after your skin! Quite a few people actually rocked up throughout the day and then Am, Will and I got a fish and chip dinner and watched the sunset while eating on the beach, perfect. Unfortunately due to it being good friday the public transport system goes slightly mental but it doesn't seem to be written anywhere! So we got stuck for quite some time waiting for a bus which was never going to come until eventually we spoke to some passers by who took us to the nearest train station.
And after all this, we even has eneergy to watch a movie at Am's place and i recommend everyone watched "In to the Wild" as it's outstanding!

WAWEE WANTS TO COME AND STAY!!!
So after a month or so in Australia I got a weekly text off my good friend William informing me he wanted to come and stay. I was really excited but didn't actually think he'd do it. (what with all you lot wanting to come and not having the ridiculous amount of money it costs!) But anyway Will happens to be in the army and only spends money on his lovely niece, occasionally the rest of his family and luckily for me, his friends!
So he books the flight, unfortunately I had to leave slightly before his flight home but that was all good anyway as it turned out and he was coming to visit me. The excitement! and then the worrying began...What the hell was I going to show him in Adelaide, also with rapidly decreasing money, and how much uni would I have while he was here?!
Anyway I digress.
He arrived on 30th April, which is probably why the blogging has been a bit less frequent as it seems to have been non-stop since then!! sooo...here we go...

ARCHITECTS PARTY
Now this was a pretty surreal experience as apparently all architects wear black clothes and big thick framed glasses (dad you could have told me this!!) well anyway Simon (havn't metioned the old fella for a while) invited us to his architects party and we went along paying 5 dollars to get into the rhino rooms.
Am, Joe, Jen and me may as well have had giant signs attached to us saying "quarantined - we are not architects, please don't speak to us!!" ha ha, but that was only the start of the night and it did get a lot better.
I had hiccups in the taxi on the way home and I've never seen a driver look so frightened. He kept slowing down and asking if i needed to stop, i was like its hiccups man!! Im not going to be sick!!! anyway it was pretty funny.

POTENTIAL WORK
So had a few more emails about work but kind of giving it a rest at the moment seeing as the legedary wawee (William, as others will know him - sorry!) is coming to visit me and then I'm away for a week anyway seeing Nat and Rumpler. I decided there's not much point harrassing employers only to tell them i can't start for two weeks actually.
But it's still in the mill, despite others attempts to destroy my search (yes alex, if i do need that certificate i will be blaming your nacho and guinness trickery!!)

UNI - BAND MEETING
We had our first meeting as a group (JB, Chrissy and myself) to discuss ideas for the music video and it all seems as though we are on the same page, which is excellent. As me and JB noted it was good that none of us wanted to go completely off tangent and make some kind of grinding rap video, we all pretty much wanted to stick to cutesy, idyllic settings to compliment the song.
We then had a meet with the band - thanks "We Grow Up" for letting us use your song and include you in the vid!! Hopefully it will turn out well and not look like a kids TV show using puppets/dolls!!
We do have strong faith!

AL FRESCO CINEMA
This was yet another wine club outing, they at least keep the social calender full! They were doing a free screening of the movie "bottle shock" on another of the uni's campus's. There was cheap drinks for members ($3 glasses of wine - bargain) and a bbq, plus popcorn. They even played loony toons cartoons beforehand!!!
I went with catherine, my awsome american buddy, and we met others there that were on the last wine evening (including alex, but not huon as he's a big lightweight!!) it was a really cool night despite being slightly eaten alive by mozzies.

BIRDS EYE VIEW OF rADELAIDE
SO i managed to find another person with a car! yay!! (although i know i know, I'm not allowed to borrow it) so anyway, my good friend and fellow wine connoisseur alex (otherwise known as Heath - you love it really!) drove me up to windy point on mount lofty to get a view of the whole city. it was amazing!! pictures to follow, although we were nearly highjacked in the car park and i think i would have done more damage than alex if we had had any trouble. ha ha.

SI's PAIN
Although this happened at the weekend I felt it needed an extra section all to itself. Simon, already getting grief for straightening his hair with GHDs is an extremely hairy man; it’s actually a bit scary. So as he told me he usually gets a wax now and again.
And this was that weekend…
Needless to say he wouldn’t let me, Am or Jen go with him (I wanted to film in order to document it) so we just had to see the after effects when he came home with blood already coming through his shirt. Bless, I actually was a bit sympathetic but not too much coz come on GAY! Ha ha.
There may be a documentation of hair growth back although I don’t know if we’ll actually see that through.

WEEKEND
Went out twice this weekend and all was good. Met some good people at the lovely Exeter where we had a legendary game of 21’s with some international students and also more English. One of them was actually even from Blackpool!! Needless to say Simon would not shut up about this!! Ha Ha.
We also found the funniest menu EVER, it was just the picture on it, hilarious!! (Leafy you would find it hilarious!!!) Don’t worry I’ll be bringing it home!
Also went for a run as I felt so ridiculously guilty for not going in the week (Radio Adelaide and Paddy’s day got in the way) then Beach volleyball on Sunday avo. That was BRILLIANT and I’m definitely going again, so much fun and a BBQ for a dollar, what more could you wish for?!

TV
Finally have a TV – if you can call it that! Ha ha, it’s pretty pathetic and my laptop screen is actually bigger than it!! But Joe-boy is happy now coz he can watch lots of DVDs without having to ask to use our laptops! : )
UP TO DATE?!
Right I think that’s all the back pedalling now and we’re up to the current date. Just got back from another beach day and today is the first day since being here that I’ve been burnt, : ( right on the bum too!! : (
Just cooked for the boys – again – and think we’re heading out tonight as Si’s just been given the night off work (wow this blogs getting a bit boring now ey?)

ANOTHER SIDE NOTE
Just to clarify to everyone for the millionth time NO SIMON AND I ARE NOT A COUPLE!!! YUK!! Ha ha, so many people keep asking if we are and apparently it’s coz we bicker a lot like a married couple. Fair enough. But just no, he’s like a brother and he’ll give me a gay comment for that!
SIMON MADE SOME FRIENDS!
A massive Toyota land cruiser nearly ran us down as we left the pub but we soon realised it was another two crazy architects who Simon knew. One of which is an aussie guy who did an exchange to Newcastle and only got back 3 weeks ago!! So we had lots to chat about and his name is LEIGH!! (there’s one for you leaf) Si says he looks like Peter Andre but I think he’s more like Aston from JLS (sorry if you read this Leigh!! I’m sure there’s a compliment there somewhere)
VOLEYBALL
Still going well and actually made it to the pub after training for free pint and cheap food. Was really good to chat to everyone outside of training and also got a lift to beach training on Sunday, where afterwards we have a BBQ, awesome.
HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY!!!
Well, the plan for today was to go to the live music on the lawns then get down to some work, go for a run then go to watch alice in wonderland. And it was all going swimmingly well until my good friend alex (an aussie from wine club) told me he was in the union having a few pints. Fair enough I though I’ll go for one then go for my run and then to the cinema (I’d already done quite a bit of work and helped Simon go shopping for bargains so he stops spending ridiculous amounts of money)
Well it actually worked out more feasible to get a jug, of green beer I might add! (damn what a pain) and so it began… Ha ha, needless to say I didn’t make it to the cinema and then also ended up getting apples thrown at me that had been floating in Guinness (thanks Justin) still a classic night and let’s be fair if I was in Newcastle I would have gone out (even if it’s only with one person, right Tara?!) but also sorry Mihai I was pretty mean to you, I blame the green in the beer.

RADIO ADELAIDE
Thought I’d go for an information evening at Radio Adelaide to see about any work experience or volunteer positions. Turns out pretty much all the staff there are actually volunteers and although it’s really interesting you have to go through a lot of training to actually volunteer and the training finishes in august (slightly difficult if your leaving in July) and you also have to be able to promise a minimum of a years work there. Kind of annoying but I think I will contact them this week about possible mail outs or data basing just to get in the atmosphere of a radio station and see the differences from a less commercial radio like Jack in the UK where I did my other work experience.
CLIPSAL 500
Everyone in the world should go to Clipsal and it should always be louder and faster! This is a big race between the V8 supercars Ford and Holden (Holden all the way baby!!) and they close down massive sections of the streets in Adelaide just for the race over 4 days. We only went for the last day but guess who was playing then; only bloody status quo!!! It was sooooooooo good, got amazing video and just the whole atmosphere was electrifying. I spent the whole day with a massive grin on my house and just jumping up and down!!
NEW HOUSE MATE – THE LOVELY JEN COME ON DOWN!!
So we finally got our new housemate even though her room was emptier than number 64b’s fridge! She had no bed, not even a mattress, oh how we love our landlord. But anyway we managed to get that sorted for the next day and in moved Jen.
We decided to all go out and have a few drinks seeing as it was coming to the end of the fringe and we all wanted to get to know each other.
Was a good one, and really nice to get to know Jen. Even if she eats more sauce than chips!! So good to have another female in the house too! She gives me some back up but I think sometimes she’s a tad overwhelmed by us all!! Sorry!!

GLENELG STUDY DAY
ADELAIDE WINE CLUB
So come on, you see something like this which is only fifteen dollars for a semester. What am I meant to do? You do actually learn stuff though, I think. And we go on wine tours and learn about tasting.
Anyway I met some absolutely wicked people, I ended up going on my own (one of the few things me and Si don’t do together!!) and it was so much fun. – once I actually found out where it was, come on guys better advertisement is needed please! – so I signed up for one semester and they just gave me a glass and said yer just chat to people and get drinking!!! One of the highlighted red wines was of course called ‘Hooley Dooley!’ a well known phrase of Miss Kelly!
I met a few people from the RAH but then circled and met a great group of aussie guys. Turned into such a random night and excellent but one that Joe was not best pleased about when I came home and woke him up! (sorry again but it was funny)
So they have lots of events on throughout the year and I ended up making some really good friends there. Obviously wine makes you friends with anyone but I have met up with them since and their sound!!

THE COURSES AND GROWN UP STUFF
Some of you may be wondering whether I’m actually at uni or just having an amazing time but you’ll be pleased to know I’m up to date with all my readings and assignments so far and the courses are REALLY good.
It took me a while to get into them, and I was pretty overwhelmed at the start wondering what the hell I’d got myself in for. The readings seemed to be never ending (and even all the students were stressing to me how important they were and that we were tested on them!) so I was getting pretty worried. So anyway it’s taken a little while to get my head around it and I’m not sure I fully understand but it’s a great learning curve.
The courses are soooo different from the UK, much more media and communications than cultural studies and very practical.
Media Policy and Media Law
This is actually an amazing course to do because I actually learn all about the law behind media, what you can and can’t do which is great. They actually compare a lot of ideas from the law in the UK, so that’s interesting too as I don’t know much about that!! We also have to do a research brief and proposal, and then actually do the research and essay which is perfect as I’m missing that assignment/dissertation prep in England. (Liviu and Denise will definitely be pleased at Newcastle with that!)
Media Democracies and E-Participation
This links heavily with politics, but it’s actually quite interesting. And also seems to overlap a lot with Media Policy and Media Law. The e-participation part is wicked; the lecturer has made an online world called Incognita where we all have our own character which we’ve made up. Each seminar group is a group in this world, and our one is the liberal media group. I made my character as the editor of the broadsheet newspaper.
We all have to have a secret to our character too which only us and the lecturer know, so no-one else in the group does. Half way through the semester there will be a big event in the town which every group will need to react to, and if it’s not getting exciting enough then the lecturer will start revealing people’s secrets! It’s teaching us about democracies but as actually virtually living in one so it’s pretty interesting.
Video Production B
I blagged my way onto this course big time as you’re supposed to have done Video Production A first! (as I mentioned before) and it’s pretty overwhelming but sooooo exciting!! We have two projects, one that we do on our own (or in groups of 2-3) and then a big group one.
The first one I’m working with two others who seem really nice (and both volunteer at Radio Adelaide!) and we’re making a music video. Got to enhance my skills for the dream job obviously! It’s really professional though, we have to find an unsigned band and have lots of meetings with them to make sure we’re doing what they want, also has to be contracted up as they could actually use it as their first music video!
The second project is a short film, which is also pretty profess as the lecturer has told us we could actually enter them into short film comps if their good enough.
We all had to write a film synopsis for the first week and then the lecturer read them out and we all voted on the three we wanted to make. 3 groups of 9 and I’m working on one that incorporates some facebook payback.

FUTURE
This was a last minute decision after weeks of pestering from Joe and Simon as “The Prodigy are playing, Ria!!” so I finally decided I would worry about the money later and just went for it. A good group of us actually turned out going (Simon, Joe, Me, Am, her Canadian friend Rema and the Irish girl she was travelling with, Dani) was such a wicked day.
We saw some pretty good djs, took funny pictures and didn’t actually drink too much. David Guetta played, then Franz Ferdinand and THE PRODIGY. They were awesome except they stopped letting people into the main dance area so it was pretty much empty but we still couldn’t get in, more than frustrating!! Anyway I just danced like a lunatic as usual but just in a very enclosed space! Rema also found a good moneymaker because she had her big professional camera with her, loads people kept asking her to take their picture thinking she was an official photographer. We contemplated charging and that will be the aim for next festival!
We also went to the 24 pancake place afterwards where I had gone a bit crazy hyper by then so made for some funny times. And that’s right fans I did say TWENTY FOUR HOUR PANCAKE HOUSE. YUM!!

WE LOVE YOU GERMANY
So after meeting the melonari man he introduced us to his friends from home, who were travelling around in an awesome campervan (Simon will later paint this beast of a van out of the good of his heart – yes I was shocked too). They couldn’t camp in his garden anymore so came to ours and the rest, as they say, is history (or squirrel!!) We got quite used to having them around and they even cooked for us which was sooooooooooo good (even if it was luminous green, we were told that was the spinach.) and we all went out into the city a few times to have very random evenings. Certain things always seem to happen to me in Australia which I can only describe as random or funny.
WOMADELAIDE
This is an awesome festival that involved world food and music and it’s just amazing even though I didn’t go to the whole four days. This is the festival where I did 16 hours bar work to gain a four day pass which should be over $300, which I thought was pretty good. The first 8 hours was just sorting out the volunteer database for the volunteer coordinator and then decorating the main bar which was pretty fun although we decorated the whole thing, realised it looked rubbish and so started the whole thing again! This I did with more Canadians! They’re everywhere I swear. Tee hee. Then the second shift was bar work which was so much fun! Met some such great people, and listened to amazing music. The first guy after the Canadians I met was actually from London though, ha ha. (Walthamstow massive- that’s not meant to be offensive Liam!) We were definitely on the best bar on Saturday night, although it did mean I missed Xavier Rudd which I was absolutely gutted about so if there’s a chance I can see him again I definitely will.
There is also a Womadelaide in England somewhere which Liam and I have made a pact to go see (right?!) and mum and chris I recommend you go for research purposes!

POINTLESS?
I’ve been thinking as I type these ramblings that I’ve told most of you what I’m up to anyway by now so this is probably a bit pointless but I’m going to keep going anyway as it helps me to remember too and not all of you have had a lengthy email yet! (sorry-but once again I don’t have internet at home!)
JOBS
This was the week I really started looking for work now that we finally had a house and the uni work load wasn’t to crazy so updated all my CVs to make sure they were Australian legitimate and started handing them out. Many places seemed not be hiring but happy to take my ‘resume’ and let me know. I’m not here for long people!!
So anyway, I found one place in the first week where I had to book in for an info evening. It was with a company called “Groovy Chics and Pirate Ships” and they do childrens parties. It sounded so much fun and was good pay. The information evening also made me want to do it but I got the feeling they wanted you to be able to commit to being there for some time, especially as you go through a lot of training and work for one day a week (which is such a full on day they only recommend you do one!) after the information evening we were supposed to write a brief description of why we would be good at the job to go with our resume, highlighting the things she had mentioned in the information evening, then if that was good enough we would be called to an interview, then put on a trial if we got through the interview. So I didn’t really see much point as by the time I got to working I’d probably be asking for time off to go visit Nat and Dave on the Gold Coast. Ha ha. (you guys come here soon, yay!!) and also it would be a waste of their time as they seemed to be looking for people who would be with them for a while.

AM'S MANSION APPARTMENT
So Am ‘n Cheese did pretty well for herself in the house stakes, despite it being pricey pricey. Her apartment is directly opposite our uni (the good one – ha ha) and also the 13th storey so it’s awesome views! There was an ACDC concert on at the Adelaide oval, which you can see from Am’s house and there were rumours you could hear the concert from up to 50kms away. They were true.
The concert was viewed from Am’s balcony with a few beers and LOADS of stupid pictures once we found the timer did multi-shots. You could hear the music so well and everyone cheering plus could see the big screen really clearly! It was amazing so we’re looking up all the concerts coming up and checking with Am we can use her balcony for our viewing pleasure. Score.

CLUBS AND ATTEMPTING TO BE A FITTY
The day before Victor Harbour Si and I went to the first volleyball club. It was so much fun even though the bruising on my arms made it look like I had meningitis! We are obviously in the beginners as we are pretty rubbish but it’s just a good atmosphere and we’ll get better. I also joined the Adelaide athletics club who go jogging Monday and Wednesday evenings and also Thursday morning. I’ve not done a morning run yet but I think I might give it a go as it’s probably cooler then, but I go to the Monday and Wednesday ones. So far I’ve only missed two (one because of a meeting and one because of the future music festival!) which I think is pretty good. I don’t always run the whole way so far but at least I do walk, run, walk, run. Have got up to nearly 6km now, too.
AN EVENING WITH MR MELONARI
After getting back from the day trip I headed to the library to check emails and the readings lists for my course (yes, I’m still a geek) but got a phone call from Mr M as he wanted to go for a beer, easily led astray I am. So I sacked that off and went and met him for bevvies. I could possibly describe him as a male Anna (although I obviously love Anna more, sorry Mihai)
Went to the Stag which has an awesome view and then onto the free concerts at the Garden!! I love that place. And I won free tickets to a show!! (told you I would tell you about that later) it was awesome, it was a show called Luck which is about a women who’s father was a professional gambler and it’s about her life. She teaches you card tricks, and there’s humour but also the serious and a quite sad side to it. We got a goody bag at the end though and there was a thing about having luck and a bracelet to bring you luck and positive thinking. I loved it.

VICTOR HARBOUR AND WILDLIFE PARK
This was a trip for international students to a wildlife park then the ‘must see’ Victor Harbour. I knew a few people from the RAH that were going but we kind of got a bit split up and I ended up sitting next to the infamous Mihai Melonari!! The wildlife park was pretty standard Aussie Fayre, of kangaroos, koalas, etc. Was nice though, but damn hot! Got a nice pic of me with a koala, bless it.
Victor harbour was pretty nice, not the beach but the Island was lovely. Apparently there are supposed to be penguins there but we didn’t see any. The Pink bird you can see actually talks! It says "how you doing", funny funny

MEG
As you see before I mentioned myself as Meg, this is somewhat affectionate (I hope) term that the delightful Am ‘n Cheese gave me while staying at The Blue Gallah. We were talking about family guy and how Simon was definitely Quagmire and Am’s words were, so does that make you Meg? I was not happy but we had a lot of drinks and I ended up laughing it off. I guess it’s actually quite funny now, except when I get told to shut up (“Shut up Meg” while I’m trying to tell stories which are genuinely amusing! (Jim that was the moment I text you and you didn’t know who I was!!) I also let her off coz Am is from “canadia” so sometimes they don’t understand what they’re saying. Ha ha, I kid. I kid.
HOME SWEET HOME
Went to look at some rooms on Goodwood Road and it turned out we could have 3 of them. This saw the end of the Joe, Am an Cheese, Meg and Sipod house hunt as the big cheese found a place in the city and me and the lads settled on Goodwood Road.
When we went to view the house it wasn’t finished and needless to say it doesn’t look a whole lot different apart form the beds, desks, fridge and kitchen table. The masking tape is still around the lights and skirtings, we had to clean the fridge ourselves and the floor isn’t done. But that’s student living for you and it is a brand new build which is pretty cool, us being the first people to live here!
Goodwood Road is also awesome and we’re right opposite a newly refurbished cinema, foodland, bakery and a MASSIVE HIGHLIGHT we are directly behind a dessert café!
Its open weds to Sunday from 8pm to late!! And only serves coffee and desserts, its ace (even though we’ve only tried one thing so far)
Also for those of you who are parental or otherwise don’t read this last bit!;
There are about 4 sex shops near us! It’s really weird, because their in between really nice wine shops and cafes. Ha Ha, Joe tried to get a job at one but apparently they aren’t hiring. LOL

Its open weds to Sunday from 8pm to late!! And only serves coffee and desserts, its ace (even though we’ve only tried one thing so far)
Also for those of you who are parental or otherwise don’t read this last bit!;
There are about 4 sex shops near us! It’s really weird, because their in between really nice wine shops and cafes. Ha Ha, Joe tried to get a job at one but apparently they aren’t hiring. LOL
"THE GARDEN"
Actually went to something in the garden which I paid for! Me and Si decided it was time for a freak show. Went into the mutant barnyard which included skeletons of all stuff “The space cowboy” had collected over the years. They included skeletons of two headed cows, ducks, a 3 legged chicken and numerous other oddities which he gave full explanation of and answered any questions. Pretty freaky but, then again, in a strange way very interesting.
JOB HUNT
This wasn’t a massive section on my agenda as I thought having a place to live would probably aid me more but I applied to volunteer at Womadelaide festival and waited for a response. 16 hours volunteer work and you get a free ticket to the four day festival which should cost over $300!
...HQ!
As some of you may be aware from my facebook this was a momentus occasion and one that will not be forgotten in a hurry. One of the funniest nights in Adelaide so far!!
So the story goes that Am was going with some mates and was told it was flashdance night where people dress up in 80’s theme and before 10pm if your dressed up you get in for free.
So you know me, I went completely dressed up in my luminous green high tops, pink leggings, glow sticks, etc. And if I’d had leg warmers I would have done that too. So me and Simon wandered down (he had even donned a luminous pink top and glowsticks with the promise of a headband from Am) and on the way I was thinking, ‘hey you know what, theres not many people dressed up walking this way’ but thought nothing of it. Got to the club, went through what I can only describe as airport security! And here’s where the laughter began; I’ll relay the conversation for effect.
Woman: “$10 dollars please”
Me: “I was told it was free before 10pm”
Woman: “yes, what’s the theme?”
Me: “80’s”
Woman: “That’s next week, this week is Rocky Horror Picture Show”
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH HOW WE LAUGHED!!!So I has to pay ten dollars to look like a complete chump and I wasn’t even drunk!! Me and Si spent the whole night absolutely crying with laughter while people walked past looking at me like I was a complete lunatic. (not much change there)
The club was the randomest thing ever too, it was kind of a mix between a show and a club, you didn’t know whether to look at the stage or dance to the music. I use music in a very loose term, my god it was like a terrible night in a 90’s club in Ibiza or something (or Blackpool as Simon pointed out actually!) Hilarious anyway and we just danced like idiots all night.

QUIZ NIGHTS
We went to two quiz nights; one in the international o week and one in the normal o week. The first was all questions on Australia which was actually quite interesting and I realised I think I know more about Aus than England. Whoops! But they got millions of pizza too!! It was amazing, we had about 4 whole pizzas on a table of 8 people.
So anyway we met some cool people.
Especially chatted to lots of people at the second quiz where we sat down on a table with all girls (Simon’s choice! Obviously. But it was while I was at the bar, obviously. Ha ha) This was a quiz night put on by the German club where there was pretzels on the tables (not as good as pizza) and the questions were a bit more varied. Found out half way through the quiz that 3 of the girls on the table were doing media, and they end up being in one my lectures! One also lived on Goodwood Road, where we eventually move to! JOE'S SISTER
The lovely Joe actually has family over here which is where he got the idea to come and work, which turned out is brilliant for us!! She has a house in a place called Semiphore (one of the many places me and Si actually went to look at a house) which is a really chilled out place. She also has a pool! YAY, so a big thanks to her on a damn windy day where beaching it would have resulted in a loss of skin cells that she let us use her pool and house. It was a brilliant day and also where we found an AMAZING restaurant and had gorgeous food and wine while watching the sunset. Oh…the student life, ha ha.
UNI – OH YER THAT’S WHAT I’M HERE FOR
Went to the official university welcome by the vice chancellor which was pretty interesting, there was also guest speakers and a former student who gave real accounts of the university life and how well he’s done with his life since then. It could have been pretty patronising but I thought it was presented well.
Then a good old free bbq (which was actually supposed to be just for first years, ha ha suckers!) and more houses were viewed afterwards, bless us. Si and I also developed a mild form of delirium which sent us laughing for about a day over random subjects and walked around most of the suburbs of Adelaide as we didn’t know which buses to get. Went and looked at all the clubs we could join and got lots of free stuff, always a bonus. There is a whole separate sports association which is different to the clubs and that was where most of my interests lay. The clubs were pretty specific to countries, religions and hobbies. E.g: The German Club, The Spanish Club, Oxfam, Karate, etc.
I signed up to the Athletics Club and Volleyball, also Board-riders in an attempt to get amazingly good at kite surfing but haven’t heard from them yet : (

SIDE NOTE
Just to mention to anyone wanting to do an exchange, the housing scenario isn’t as terrible as it sounds. I think I mine was made more dramatic by the fact I changed what I was looking for half way through, and looking for just one room in a share house is a lot easier than looking for a whole house, or 4 rooms. The university accommodation is ridiculously expensive and from what I’ve heard it’s not that great (not the same as Newcastle, and other universities, first year accommodation anyway) so anyone else coming I’d definitely do it the way I did. Plus to be honest we saw a lot of the surrounding areas while house searching, which was good and you get to see the differences in what you get for your money.
HOUSES, FOR SALE, FOR RENT, not FOR US
Looking for a house instead of one room had slight ramifications and there were angry moments (on my part obviously) where I almost gave up and moved in with the catdog man or any of the 500 other places I viewed. Also adding to the pressure was that it seemed only two out of the four were looking, grrr. Granted joe was working everyday and am had uni stuff but still.
So anyway lots of places don’t want to let a house for 6 months, one had no furniture whatsoever and others were plain right mansions and we were slightly kidding ourselves but we got pictures of some sweet pads.

GLENELG AGAIN
This time was on an organised uni trip which was pretty funny. We also got a lovely talk from a lifeguard terrifying us all from going on the beach with fear of drowing, jelly fish, sharks and creepy spikey shells that can kill you. Fun Fun, but don’t worry THE BEACHES ARE SAFE. HA HA HA
Also spent day on the beach on Sunday and got fish and chips with am, joe and si. yum yum. If you look at my facebook there are a lot of pictures of me and am with food, it’s a theme that we both enjoy! We also had pineapple fritters, which am had never had. Oh yer amazing! And we all watched the sunset while having a delightful glass of goon.
For those of you who don’t know, Goon is very cheap boxed wine in Australia. It’s usually about $10-$12 for 4 litres (about 30 drinks)! But it does contain the warning;
“Produced with the aid of milk, fish, egg and nut products and traces may remain. Sugar added.” Nice.

BUSKERS CORNER
As mentioned before I love “The garden!!” and there is an excellent little area called Busker s Corner where there are loads of street performers on all evening and they just ask for a donation at the end of their performance or if you have no money to at least go and thank them (one of the things I chose frequently after using all my cash – whoops) there were loads of performances including flame throwing, putting your whole body through a tennis racket!!! and getting out of chains, ropes, etc.
One of the most exiting though had to be Flame Oz, they travel all over and doing amazing fire shows!! Si got some wicked pics and I actually went to see them twice. (Mr Kingston if your reading this – the guy looked JUST like you, it was a bit creepy, lol)

THE BLUE GALLAH HOSTEL
Friday came around and I was informed my time at ‘the prison’ was up which proved slightly concerning but I managed to move to the Blue Gallah Hostel on King William Street instead (luckily also to be where Am, Joe and Si were staying) and it was right in the centre of town with a big balcony overlooking one of the main streets. Cheap beer was also a bonus, although on the first two hours some pikeys stole my food which I had only just bought. Bloody backpackers!! HA HA.
We went to the opening of the fringe festival too, which was a big parade with carnival floats. Some were so random and the funniest one was promoting the morning after pill with two cartoon people in a big bed being like oops!! It was sooooooo random!!! There was a lot of promotion of green issues and recycling which was what can be expected from Australia and I thought it was really good. It was CRAZY busy though, and I was glad to get back to the safety of the balcony terrace to have a few bevies there. Although your charged for taking alcohol in to the hostel. ANNOYING.

O WEEK (INTERNATIONAL)
Lets just call it searching for houses week. And getting to know that Simon is a complete turd but I do laugh lots.
Oh also discovering that exchange students aren’t supposed to take a media degree. HA HA; that was a fun one. Anyway I soon got that sorted.
FREE BBQS AND BUY ONE GET ONE FREE FOOD WERE ALSO A HIGHLIGHT.
I also went on art gallery tour, (see I’m barely drinking and ding cultural things!!) which had lots of aboriginal art and we got the history of it which was really interesting. Went to a couple of inductions but a lot seemed to be aimed at students with lets say limited English skills and were fairly patronising. Also to people who had never been away from home before, to any other country than their own, etc. A fair amount of people seemed to think I was Australian too, so questioned why I was even there! Oh well, at least I tried!

THE UNI (PART 2)
This was stress and a half. (I’m beginning to sound like Charlie Tweed – everything stressful!) anyway, so I go to enrol which I though I had actually already done in
England but apparently not and get told by the ‘help’ that I’m trying to enrol in third year courses which I’m not allowed to do, or I will find it too hard. Oh and also the main thing which is in the enrolment guide. MEDIA STUDIES IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXCHANGE/INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.
WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO by this time I was slightly distressed and headed over to the humanities department trying to be polite and calm. The woman there was very helpful and explained that within humanities they actually don’t have a distinction between second and third year anymore. It is now just first year and then advanced level. She also told me that that didn’t matter anyway as international/exchange students were pretty much allowed to take what the wanted because their grades went back to the home university so it was up to them to say no, who thankfully didn’t. Thanks Newcastle!! : )
The next thing was being me, I wanted to take a video production course but in second year you could only take Video Production B, which had a pre-requisite of Video Production A. I basically went and had a chat with the head of media and told him my work experience and he reckoned I should be fine. I think my lecturer was slightly worried when I arrived in class and I was the only person he didn’t know. To be honest I think he’s still terrified I’ll let my group down but if you ever read this; Phil, don’t worry!! I’m a fast learner I promise!!
So after this fiasco I went to enrol again only to have a big warning flash up saying all the course I had had pre-requisites and I had to get a manual overwrite…. Patience, patience.
Off I trundle back to the humanities office, Hiya – me again!! I gave the forms to a girl on the desk who just went, ok. Didn’t check any of the numerous documents I had to say I could do the course and did the overwrite. Surely that could have been done before?!
Anyway so there I am enrolled on courses I should have millions of pre-requisites and a two third year courses. Typical me! Ha ha.

HOUSING
Despite searching with the others I still made a few appointments for houses with just one room to keep my options open. Saw some ok places but nothing that really grabbed me. One of the funniest comment in a house I went to view was from an Indian guy who said “don’t worry your safe here, we all have girlfriends” WEIRDO! Ha ha, I think he was just trying to be nice but still, I’d only just met him.
THE SPORTS BAR ON HINDLEY
The only place so far that sells full pints (in a glass tankard I might add!!!) for 5 bucks, bargain.
This is also where I met the lovely Amandine (AKA Am, ‘am and cheese, Aberdeen) and Joe (AKA Doolan) and we decided to look for a house altogether in between me falling asleep at the table (sorry guys, yes it was personal. I kid, I kid)
And of all the people I end up living with in Australia, it’s a guy from Preston and a guy from Blackpool!!! Haha, will the rah comments never end?
